New 400 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch is Available for Briggs & Stratton 30 and 45 kW Generator Sets

Nobember 2, 2009

DynaGen Technologies Inc., and the Home Power Products division of Briggs & Stratton Corporation are pleased to announce a new automatic transfer switch that is available for use with Briggs & Stratton's 30 and 45 kW residential standby power generation sets.

The new 'LM' version of 400A automatic transfer switch, manufactured by DynaGen Technologies, is designed to work seamlessly with Briggs & Stratton generator sets by utilizing a convenient installation kit (Briggs part #71041).

DynaGen's Vigilant 400A transfer switch is the only 400 amp transfer switch available on the market that can provide 'Whole House Managed Power' when installed with the Briggs & Stratton Power Management System (PMS). The PMS (Briggs part #71035) and the DynaGen 400 amp transfer switch work together to allow for precise management of the power demands for an entire house, while still maintaining maximum comfort and control from a smaller, more fuel efficient generator.

Standard features of the Vigilant transfer switches include: • Rugged contactor-based double throw switch • Full-featured Controller Board with conformal coating for moisture protection • Galvanized Steel Enclosure • Externally accessible Exerciser Clock and LED's • 5 Year Warranty

"DynaGen has designed this new automatic transfer switch specifically to work with our patented Power Management System (PMS)," says David Duffield, Briggs & Stratton's director of sales for standby power. "PMS allows homeowners the ability to install a smaller, more fuel efficient generator to manage power for an entire home, thus saving them money."

Paul Wareham, director of business development for DynaGen, says, "We're seeing an increasing demand for larger residential generators for high-end homes. Our 400 amp, single-phase automatic transfer switch is ideally suited for this market."

The PMS manages up to two air conditioners and up to four high wattage electric loads in a larger home or a small business, allowing the utilization of other electrical appliances and devices. The PMS is programmed to wait five minutes before starting air conditioning units after utility interruption. This allows pressure to bleed off from the air conditioner compressor, permitting unit start up at less than its peak power requirement.

Duffield explains, "The PMS gives the homeowner the ability to manage their entire homes' electrical system by preventing the largest electrical draws, from cycling when other large draw devices are operating. The controls continuously check for available generator power and then allows power to return to appliances that were previously shed when generator power is readily available."

Wareham notes, "Increasingly, the new electrical code requirements of NEC 2008 Article 702.5 (B)(2) require that generators either be matched to the size of the service or that controls be provided to avoid overloading the generator. We're proud that we are playing a vital role in addressing these requirements with the new 'LM' version of our Vigilant ATS."

The new DynaGen 400A transfer switch (DynaGen part #VTS2-0400-2-240-12-LM-N3-lS) is available by contacting DynaGen at 1-888-396-2436 (www.dynagen.ca)
